Andrea is a citizen of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation on her maternal side, and Mexican on her paternal side. She graduated from the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program where she earned an MD from UCSF, and an MS from UC Berkeley. She completed a residency in General and Preventive Medicine with the California Department of Public Health, and completed a fellowship in research and policy through the National Clinician Scholars Program at UCLA. Andrea works at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health where has the privilege of focusing exclusively on the health and wellbeing of the Native American community through her clinical work, through larger community initiatives, policy, and through research. She is also a Visiting Project Scientist with the Center for Health Services and Society, Department of Psychiatry, at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Through all of her work, research, and volunteer endeavors, Andrea is most interested in centering Native American voices and perspective in addressing the structural determinants of health and wellbeing.
